Niyal Castle - is located between Lahij and Basqal villages of Ismailly region. It is estimated to be built in the 6th century. Famous Albanian ruler Javanshir, who fighted against the Arabs, had a summer residence in the north slope of Niyaldagh near Lahij village. Niyal castle is one of the witnesses of those days of Azerbaijani history during Arab invasion. From this strategic place a unique panorama is opened to Lahij. The remnants of a mountainous cart path from Fit Mountain up to the Niyal Mountain and also remnants of an underground way beginning from Niyal Mountain once more prove the ancient history of this territory.
