The House-Museum of Samad VurgunThe house-museum of Samad Vurgun is the first memorial museum created to perpetuate the memory of writers and composers in Azerbaijan. It is located in the six-roomed flat on the third floor of the dwelling building built in XIX century. The poet lived his last years in this flat and engaged in intensive creative and public works. The inauguration of the house-museum organized in 1974 with the Decree of the Government of Republic was held on October 6, 1975. During the time passed the fund of the museum has become considerably richer, new exposition sections were created, researches on life and works of the poet were carried out. The main duty of the museum is to collect the exhibits related to the poet. Today the number of the exhibits at the museum is more than 13 000. Three rooms in the museum – workroom of the poet, sitting-room and bedroom are kept as they were when the poet was alive. In other three rooms, the exposition reflecting the life and activity, public work, and the memory of the poet is created.Scope of activity of the museum is broad. Along with popular works, “Memorial days” of the poet is held twice a year – on March 21 and May 27. Literary events, anniversaries of pen friends of the poet, meetings devoted to historical dates have also become tradition of the museum.President Ilham Aliyev signed an Order on December 13, 2011 on implementation of capital repairs of the house-museum of People’s Poet Samad Vurgun.
