The museum used to be located in Lutheran church built by German community settled in this region in 1854; but then the building was given to the Ministry of Education. There are over 400 historical exhibits in the museum moved back to the church. The activity of the museum stopped for a few years; the exhibits of the museum were richer in the past. Later on, a part of the exhibits was given to Lankaran museum and another part was given to Ganja museum.
