The Ramazanovs’ House The Ramazanovs’ House was built in 1895 with the order of Haji Mammadkarim Ramazanov. The building belonged to Haji Mammadkarim Ramazanov and his wife Umbulbanu. This four storeyed building was built in national romantic style. National ornaments are depicted on every stone and wall of the building. The arches rising from the second floor to the last floor, as well as, cupola, edges of the conches based on stalactic system of the wooden porch on the last floor, artistic carvings on the stones give a special appearance to the building. Elements of oriental architecture are used on the façades. On the first floor, Haji Mammadkarim had opened “Ermes” electro-theatre. The second floor was rented to well-known businessman Rahimkhan. On the third floor there were jewelry shops. On the fourth floor, the Ramazanovs’ family lived. On the wooden porch of the building “Mugham nights” were periodically organized. Patterned porch was the rest place of the Ramazanovs. The patterns of the porch have an interesting symbolic meaning. The patterns with leaves of the porch symbolize Baku to be a windy city. The building where the Ramazanovs’ family lived was distributed among the people by dividing it into several apartments in Soviet times. Today two families of the Ramazanovs’ kin live in this building.
