The spring session of the Azerbaijani Parliament scheduled for February 1 will discuss several important issues.
A draft law to ban smoking in several public places, which has long been delayed, will be discussed during the spring session. The issue on smoking in public places has been raised repeatedly in the Parliament however the project did not received adequate attention.
The country aims to ban smoking in public places in order to protect the health of its citizens, given that about 60 percent of men and up to 10 percent of women in the country smoke tobacco.
Most of the smoking population in Azerbaijan is men. About 50 percent of men in the country smoke daily, 40 percent of them smoke at least one or two packs of 20 cigarettes per day.
Another topic of discussions will be the fight against information that damage children’s health and development, which will also be included in the agenda of the session.
Amendments to the law “On Aviation” will also be discussed at the Parliament. Under the project relevant executive authority may be entitled to carry out safety audits on aircrafts belonging to other states.
The checks will be conducted in compliance with the flight schedule of the aircrafts.
