A photo exhibition entitled "150 years of humanitarian action: focus on the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in Azerbaijan" was opened in Baku today by the ICRC and the Swiss embassy, ICRC Delegation to Azerbaijan told.
"The ICRC, which has been working in Azerbaijan since 1992, tries to alleviate the suffering of people affected by the armed conflict in Nagorny Karabakh. One of our main activities – illustrated in many of the photos – consists in providing support for vulnerable people in the front-line areas," said Denise Duran, head of the ICRC delegation in Azerbaijan. "We work hand in hand with our main partner in the country, the Red Crescent Society of Azerbaijan, to improve the humanitarian situation in the war-affected areas."
"We are pleased to join the ICRC in celebrating the 150th anniversary of its founding," said Pascal Aebischer, the Swiss ambassador. "The ICRC was once a very small organization with only Swiss staff. Now it provides a broad range of humanitarian services in more than 90 countries all over the world."
The exhibition, which features 36 photos from Azerbaijan taken by two professional photographers, will be open to the public in the National Art Museum until 22 December.
