There are 1,188,000 pupils and 151,538 teachers in 4513 educational institutions in Azerbaijan, Minister of Education Mikayil Jabbarov said at the 14th Congress of Azerbaijani Teachers.

He said pupil-teacher ratio is 1:8. Jabbarov said due to the recent positive demographic changes in the country, the number of first-grade pupils is increasing.

"More than 137 000 children began going to school in 2013-2014. This figure will be increased in the coming years," he said.

Minister underlined that 29,337 people are studying at 108 elementary vocational schools.

“More than 2700 schools have been overhauled in the recent years. Studying conditions of more than 1 million pupils have been improved. The education of 2612 abroad has been financed by the State Oil Fund,” he said.

Minister of Education added that preparations should be made to provide every pupil with tablets with uploaded e-textbooks.
