Photos and a video of adult male and female leopard have been shot in Zangazur National Park named after Hasan Aliyev in Azerbaijan.
The shooting was made while Ecology and Natural Resources Ministry of Azerbaijan was conducting a joint monitoring with the Azerbaijani office of the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) in the park, a press office of the Ministry told 1news.az.
The similar facts recorded over the last few years point to intensified measures to preserve wildlife in natural habitats, measures aimed at raising environmental awareness and secure conditions where leopards may live and reproduce and where animals like beoar goats, mouflon, which are preys of leopards, may increase in number, according to the ministry.
The work done as part of ‘Great five’ program aimed at preserving five species of fauna (bears, wolves, gazelle, eagles and leopard) who are on the verge of extinction and organized by Leyla Aliyeva, vice-president of Heydar Aliyev Foundation and initiator of International Dialogue for Environmental Action, also contributed to this.
As a result of the measures taken, recently there have been more and more leopards in specially protected areas and they have been provided with secure conditions to live.
The outcomes of regular monitoring show that the process of return of rare species of animals to their habitats in Azerbaijani wildlife is not a coincidence, experts say.
