Jameel Prize short-listed artist Faig Ahmed and a panel of guests as
they discuss the arts scene in Azerbaijan with reference to works in the
Jameel Prize 3 exhibition, which continues until 21 April 2014 in the
V&A. Included in the panel discussion are Suad Garayeva, a writer
and curator specialising in art of Russia, the Caucasus and Central Asia
and Dina Nasser-Khadivi, an independent curator and consultant,
specialising in Contemporary art from the Middle East, Iran and the
Caucasus. Together they offer insight into the developing cultural
infrastructure and growing number of projects that celebrate art of the
region.
About Faig Ahmed
Faig Ahmed is an
Azerbaijani artist whose work deconstructs motifs and formulae of
Azerbaijani carpets, which remain a popular art form on walls and floors
across Azerbaijan its neighbours. Ahmed also works with YARAT
Contemporary Art Organisation to support culture in Azerbaijan. YARAT is
a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to nurturing an understanding
of contemporary art in Azerbaijan and to creating a platform for
contemporary Azerbaijani artists, both nationally and internationally.
Through YARAT, Ahmed took part in the 55th Venice Biennale 2013 in an
exhibition entitled Love Me, Love Me Not and curated Zavod, an
exhibition featuring 29 emerging artists from Azerbaijan and taking
place in an ex-Soviet air conditioning factory in Baku.
