“Love Tree” project launched in Baku - PHOTO

Vice-president of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, Editor in Chief of “Baku” magazine Leyla Aliyeva and Arzu Aliyeva have attended a ceremony to launch “Love Tree”, a project conceived by International Dialogue for Environmental Action (IDEA), YARAT Contemporary Art Space and “Baku” magazine.

Addressing the event, which was arranged at the Seaside National Park in Baku, Executive Director of the Contemporary Art Museum Khayyam Abdinov provided an insight into the project.

It is believed that love lock that sweethearts lock to bridge, fence, gate, or similar public fixture to symbolize their love brings them happiness. Typically the sweethearts` names or initials inscribed on the padlock, and its key is thrown away to symbolize unbreakable love. Young people leave souvenirs of their love in public gardens, parks and elsewhere along with emotional writings.

The “Love tree”, a 2.5 meter high metal construction, had become an integral part of the seaside boulevard landscape and a permanent attraction for young couples who see padlocks as a token of their love.
The event featured a concert by Azerbaijani artists.
