Azerbaijani film gets into competition at Cannes

Azerbaijani film "Sonuncu" (The Last One) directed by Sergei Pikalov has got into the competition program of short films of the 67th Cannes International Film Festival, according to the Festival's website.

According to foreign media, for the first time the competition of "Short Film" features shots from Azerbaijan and Georgia.
Contest "Short Film" this year received 3,450 works from 128 countries. As a result, 10 films can claim the Palme d'Or for the best short film, among which is the Last One shot in our country by Russian director Sergei Pikalov, known for his work on the series of "Not Born Beautiful" and "Talisman of Love".

The film "The Last One" is a philosophical parable telling about two Azerbaijani heroes - a lonely old man, a veteran of the Great Patriotic War and a 15-year-old peddler, living in a small village.

The festival will be held from 14 to 25 May. The jury is headed by the Iranian director and screenwriter, winner of the "Palme d'Or" at the Cannes Film Festival in 1997, Abbas Kiarostami. The winner of the contest will be announced at the closing ceremony on 24 May 2014.
