President Ilham Aliyev offers condolences on Eduard Shevardnadze’s death

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev expressed his condolences to Georgian President Giorgi Margvelashvili in connection with the death of Georgia's prominent politician and statesman, Eduard Shevardnadze.

"On behalf of the people of Azerbaijan and on my own behalf, I offer you and the whole people of Georgia my deep condolences over the death of outstanding Georgian politician and statesman, a big friend of Azerbaijan Eduard Amvrosiyevich Shevardnadze," President Aliyev said in his letter of condolence.

"The entire life, high state activities of Eduard Shevardnadze for the prosperity of brotherly Georgia earned him authority, deep respect and worldwide recognition."

"Eduard Shevardnadze made a tremendous contribution to preservation, development and strengthening of centuries-long traditions of friendship, good neighborliness and mutual support between the peoples of Azerbaijan and Georgia. National leader Heydar Aliyev and Eduard Shevardnadze are the founding fathers and those who developed qualitatively new intergovernmental relations and strategic partnership between our brotherly nations," Azerbaijani president said.

"The people of Azerbaijan mourn and grieve alongside the brotherly people of Georgia. Once again accept our deepest sympathy and condolences over this tragic loss," the letter read.
