The organisers of the Eurovision Song Contest have revealed that it’s the Wiener Stadthalle that will be the arena for the upcoming contest.
It is located in the 15th district of Vienna and was designed by Austrian architect Roland Rainer and built from 1953 to 1958.
The arena has an overall seating capacity of approximately 16,000 people. This depends largely on the equipment installed at the arena but even more so on the stage. The amount of available capacity for all the shows will be announced in the upcoming months when these details are finalised.
The arena comprises 6 halls: A and B (gymnasiums), C (ice arena), D (main hall, mostly for concerts ), E (for smaller events) and F for more intimate concerts. In 1974, the additional Stadthallenbad, a public swimming pool, was built.
Some of the world’s biggest stars have performed at the arena, from Bob Dylan to Robbie Williams, Justin Bieber to the 1988 Eurovision Song Contest winner Celine Dion. The next superstar to take the stage there is Lady Gaga.
The 60th Eurovision Song Contest is set to take place in Vienna, Austria on the 19th, 21st and 23rd of May 2015.
