Scotland has voted against ending its 307-year-old union with England and Wales, with the Scottish National party conceding defeat in the historic referendum.
55% of voters rejected First Minister Alex Salmond's prospectus for independence, while 44% decided to vote for independence. Consequently, Scotland made certain to stay in the United Kingdom. Final results are to be declared today.
