Azerbaijan to hold municipal elections on December 23

The Central Election Commission (CEC) has today discussed the issue on fixing the date of the municipal elections in Azerbaijan.

CEC Chairman Mazahir Panahov said that elections were held for 1718 municipalities last year.

He said the term of office of municipalities’ members will expire on December 23.

CEC Chairman noted that small municipalities have merged in recent years and there are currently 1607 municipalities.

CEC decided to hold the next municipal elections on December 23, 2014.

CEC Secretary Arifa Mukhtarova gave information about the issues regarding on the approval of “Calendar Plan for the main activities and measures on the preparation and conduct of the Municipal Elections in the Republic of Azerbaijan”.

The Commission also made e decision on the approval of the Calendar Plan. Ballot papers will be prepared till December 13.

Initial information on the municipal elections will be made public on December 23 from 10:00 to 12: 00.

The results of the municipal elections will be made public by January 17, 2015.
