Orienteering Championship wraps up in Azerbaijan

The Open Championship in Orienteering, co-organized by Orienteering Sporting Federation of Azerbaijan, Azerbaijani Taxes Ministry, Special State Protection Service of Azerbaijan and Executive Power of Khachmaz region was held in Nabran, Khackmaz region of Azerbaijan.

Twenty teams, representing various agencies, organizations, universities, sport clubs, diplomatic missions, as well as individual athletes took part in the event.

The competitions included two categories: “Elite” (professional sportsmen) and “Open” (recruits). 140 people attended the competition.

Under the terms of the championship, the sportsmen should overcome the distance, marking via electronic chip on each checkpoint, shown on the sport map.

On the first day of the competition, the participants run at medium distances, where in Elite category Muvassil Allahverdiyev took the first place. Shahriyar Ismailov (a member of Neftchi team) became the second one and Emin Mammadov (Mountain Sports Club) took the third place.

In Elite category among women, Natalya Aliyeva (Neftchi) won the gold medal, while the silver and bronze medals went to Rena Abbaszada (Special State Protection Service) and Natalya Shiyanova (Mountain Sports Club), respectively.

Meanwhile, the first place in the Open category among men went to Anton Pupov (Climb Club who was followed by Alexey Antonuk (Romsat , Ukraine) and Bahruz Mammadov (Rock Stone) respectively. Among women, Susan Aliyeva took the first place and left behind Fidan Mammadova (Climb Club) and Tatyana Fedukina (Embassy of Ukraine) respectively.

On the second day of the championship, the participants competed in short distances. Here, in Elite category Shahriyar Ismailov gained the gold, Adail Ganbarov (Special State Protection Service) took the silver and Suleyman Aliyev (Neftchi) the bronze medals. Natalya Aliyeva (Neftchi), Olga Mashkova (Mountain Sports Club) and Rena Abbaszada (Special State Protection Service) took the first three places respectively among women.

In Open category among men, Andrey Fedukin, Elvin Aliyev and Javid Aliyev took the first three places respectively. Among women: Parvana Adnaliyeva, Anna Belousova and Aygun Azanmedova were the first three winners.

During the two-day competition, the winner of the Cup of the Open Championship in Orienteering became Neftchi team and the second place went to Azerbaijani Defense Ministry, and Mountaineering Club team took the third place.

The winners were awarded with medals, diplomas and prizes.
