Georgia`s “Erisioni” ensemble to perform in Baku
5.4.2012

A show by the legendary Georgian folk music ensemble “Erisioni” will take place at the Azerbaijani State Opera and Ballet Theatre on April 6. The organizer of the event is «Buta» Arts Centre.
“Erisioni” founded in 1885, is often referred to as “a folklore museum”. The company that celebrated it`s anniversary (120 years) in 2005 now unites several generations of around 100 artists.
Erisioni attained global acclaim thanks to their cooperation with US producer Jim Lowe and French stage director Pascal Jourdan on the project Georgian Legend - a performance consisting of the dances and songs of Georgia, loosely bound around tales from the country`s rich history.
Georgian Legend provides an insight into the traditional Georgian warrior culture which has preserved its unique attributes and independence for centuries.
“Erisioni” has thousands of fans worldwide. Hundreds of thousands have attended the show in Europe and USA. Not a single ticket remained unsold. Western press has called a show by “Erisioni” a real work of art.
A video for the “Shatilis Asulo” song about a girl from a highland village, initially shot as advertisement, was purchased by one of the French public TV Channels where it was screened continuously and found it`s way to the top of European charts. Legend also made a successful tour through France, Switzerland and Belgium in April 2002, with an audience of 150,000 and 100,000 CDs were sold in only a few months. Then, with the same program, Erisioni toured to other European countries, Russia, and China. In 2005, Georgian Legend was discontinued after Pascal Jourdan and the Erisioni Ensemble produced a new cast Samaia.
