Some higher education institutions in Azerbaijan are likely to cancel state exams and final research papers, says Head of the Department of Higher and Secondary Special Education of the Ministry of Education Ilham Mustafayev.

According to him, Azerbaijan’s University of Languages cancelled the final state exam and research papers for the 2010/2011 academic year, based on the proposal of this institute and with the consent of the Ministry of Education. Students were graduated on the grounds of reports, which describe the scientific, educational and social activities of graduates over the study period.

The same innovation can be applied to the students studying humanitarian and natural sciences. However, the practice of writing final research papers for technical subjects should remain, Mustafayev said.

He stressed that the main purpose of submitting final research papers and state examinations is to determine the knowledge level of students.
