Azerbaijani movies will join the 8th edition of Varesh International Short Film Festival to last from January 19 to February 22 in Iran.
The Festival will be hosted by Iran and attended by filmmakers from Caspian region countries.
The festival includes such documentary films of "Azanfilm" studio as "Melting Island", "Inheritance", "Lahic" as well as the animated film "Old Watch". The short feature film "Lighthouse" was also screened during the festival.
The screenwriter of "Melting Island" and "Lighthouse" is Esmira Eyyub. The films' director is Fariz Ahmadov. "Lahic"'s screenwriter and film director is Tofig Shahverdiyev, producer is Fariz Ahmadov. Screenwriter and film director of "Old Watch" is Javid Ahadov, producer - Fariz Ahmadov.
From 1,278 films sent to the festival, 168 were included in the festival's competition program. Some 58 of them are works of Iranian filmmakers and 110 of foreigners.
The international section of the festival is dedicated to the shared heritage of Caspian littoral states whose film productions deal with common religious, cultural, geographical and historical themes.
The festival is aimed at promoting filmmaking on ritual, religious and folklore subjects, common topics between Iranian ethnic groups and other Caspian littoral states, as well as the shared heritage among these countries and the revival of an effective and mutual relation.
