A town of Zagatala, Azerbaijan, will host a training seminar of the initial stage of the project titled “Restoration of cultural heritage in historical cities”, implemented as part of the Kiev Initiative, regional programme of the Council of Europe.
The seminar scheduled for September 6-9, will bring together participants from 10 Azerbaijan`s regions as well as experts of the CoE Directorate on Culture, Cultural and Natural Heritage.
The project funded by the CoE and EU is aimed at developing infrastructure of cultural tourism in the country`s regions. It will also be implemented in Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine.
The Kiev Initiative is a regional and transversal programme created by the Council of Europe to promote the intercultural dialogue and democratic stability in Azerbaijan, Georgia, Republic of Moldova, Armenia and Ukraine. The Programme was announced in Kiev, on 5 September 2005 and launched in Bucharest, on 15 December 2006, at the Romanian Ministry of Culture. The Programme includes the activities carried out by the Council of Europe in the area, assimilating the projects already implemented (the CoE Programme for Heritage in South Eastern Europe).
The Kiev Initiative regional programme reflects the sustainable development philosophy promoted by the CoE, which addresses regional cooperation in a trans-disciplinary approach of cultural management, cultural and natural heritage, environment protection and urban planning.
