Azerbaijan, Hungary double cargo turnover

Silk Way West Airlines, the all-cargo national carrier of Azerbaijan has doubled the monthly volume of cargo turnover between Azerbaijan and Hungary, Hungarian media reported on February 17.

“The airlines doubled the cargo transportation by late 2014,” said the report. “This became possible as a result of using Boeing-747 aircraft with a load capacity of 113 metric tons, while the load capacity of Boeing 767-300F that was previously used for cargo transportation was 53 metric tons.”

The increase of trade turnover will contribute to strengthening of economic relations between Budapest and Baku, as well as the Far East countries, according to the report.

Jozsef Kossuth, Cargo Manager for Budapest Airport said that as Hungary expected, Silk Way West quickly became popular in Central Europe.

“Two flights per week carried out by Silk Way West open great opportunities for Hungarian trade, since they ensure fast communication among Hungary, Azerbaijan and markets in the Far East,” he said.

Nijat Babayev ,Vice President of Silk Way West, for his part, said that the company is satisfied with its activities in Hungary and will continue working on further improving and expanding the export and import operations.

Silk Way West is included in Silk Way Holding, which combines a number of companies operating in the aviation industry and related services.

It offers scheduled flights to destinations across Europe, the Middle East, and Asia. Its fleet consist of 3 Boeing 747-400F, two "747-8" aircraft and 2 Boeing B767-300F.

It also cooperate closely with Silk Way Airlines and Azerbaijan Airlines, using cargo space on aircrafts IL-76 and AN-12 that belong to Silk Way Airlines and bellies of passenger aircraft of Azerbaijan Airlines.
