A solo exhibition by the famous Belgian artist and a well-known face of modern art Wim Delvoye has opened at the Heydar Aliyev Center.
The exhibition that will last until September 27 presents about 50 works by the artist.
Director of the Centre Anar Alakbarov stressed the importance of the exhibition, adding Heydar Aliyev Centre already turned the Cultural centre of Azerbaijan.
On the activity of the Belgian artist Mr. Alakbarov also praised successfully arranging this project.
Anar Alakbarov thanked Vice-president of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation Leyla Aliyeva for supporting the project and also stressed the role of the Belgian Embassy to Azerbaijan in holding the exhibition.
Ambassador of Belgium to Azerbaijan Karen Pettit expressed pleasure with the presentation of the exhibition of the artist at the Heydar Aliyev Centre.
The Ambassador said opening such exhibition in Azerbaijan would contribute to development of relations between the two countries.
Belgian artist Wim Delvoye expressed gratitude to Vice-president of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation Leyla Aliyeva.
Wim Delvoye was born in 1965 in Belgium. He graduated from Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Ghent. He has created unique artworks by presenting traditions of Europe in the context of modern mass culture. Works combined patterns and ornaments in contemporary storylines – statues – have brought success to the artist. In his artworks, Delvoye manages to combine components in various contexts and gives them brand new meaning and content.
Wim Delvoye’s works have been displayed in a number of world-class museums and galleries such as the Louvre, the Georges Pompidou National Arts and Cultural Center (Paris), and the Peggy Guggenheim Collection (Venice) so far. He was a participant of Venice Biennial in 1990 and Documenta IX exhibition held in Kassel, Germany in 1992.
