Azerbaijani chess-player reaches World chess cup quarterfinal
8.9.2011

Second legs in the round of 16 of the World Chess Cup were held in Russia’s Khanti-Mansiysk. Teymur Rajabov played with black pieces against Russian Dmiriy Yakovenko ending in a draw, which led him to the quarterfinal, since a day earlier our grandmaster won with white pieces. In the round of 8 of the final Rajabov will have a game against the winner of the pair Bu Ksjandji (China)-Vasiliy Ivanchuk (Ukraine). The equality is so far observed in this match.
Vugar Hashimov, who beat Danish Peter Jayne Nilssen, lost him with white pieces and is now obliged to prove his superiority in the tie break. If Vugar reaches the quarterfinal, his next opponent will be the winner of the match between Ruslan Ponomarev (Ukraine) and Lazaro Bruzon (Cuba). The draw is so far observed here too.
