The inaugural European Games, first in the history of the European continent, have today started in Baku
Two synchronized swimmers Tatyana Nikitina and Yekaterina Valiulina from Azerbaijan will compete against 19 rivals in the Games.
The program has begun with the synchronized swimming competition. The program involves athletes from 20 countries, including Azerbaijan, Slovakia, Poland, Hungary, Spain, the Czech Republic, Russia, Turkey, Ukraine.
Baku 2015 is the first-ever European Games, an exciting and innovative multi-sport event for the continent which will take place on June 12-28, 2015. The European Games is a multi-sport event for athletes from all over Europe and is held every four years.The Games are owned, organised and regulated by the European Olympic Committees.
The European Games were created at the General Assembly of the European Olympic Committees on December 9th 2012 in Rome, Italy, when 84% of the National Olympic Committees of Europe voted for the creation of the European Games.
There will be a total of 20 sports at Baku 2015: 16 Olympic sports and four non-Olympic sports. More than 6,000 athletes from across Europe will be representing their nations over 17 days of competition.
