According to the website for the President of Latvia, experienced diplomat Juris Maklakovs replaced ambassador Hardiys Baumanis who died of a disease in Baku in April of this year.
President of Latvia Raymond Vajonis held a meeting with the new ambassador and handed him credentials.
Maklakovs has been the Latvian ambassador to Kazakhstan since 2011.
He is the formed commander of the National armed forces of Latvia.
By 2010 he had been the only major-general in Latvia.
