Flame Towers among world's most unusully shaped skyscrapers - Photos

Gazeta.ru has published article about seven skyscrapers of unusual shapes with Azerbaijan's Flame Towers among them.

The coin (Abu-Dhani, UAE)

Arabs have become the kings of skyscrapers over the past years, thus demonstrating their wealth. Therefore, the choice of a coin as a shape for one of the buildings is quite logical. This skyscraper is the head office of Aldar construction company. By the way, this is yet another tendency in the world of skyscrapers: most of them are built at the order of a rich company. The design has been developed by Qatar architects. The building was constructed in just seven months in 2010 and became the first round high-rise in the world.

Bottle-opener (Shanghai, China)

A building resembling a bottle-opener was constructed in China and got an unofficial name 'a bottle-opener'. The World financial center of Shanghai has settled inside it. Initially, the hole on top of the building intended to lower air resistance was to be round, but Chinese did not like the idea: they considered that it would resemble the rising sun on the flag of Japan, which is why the hole shape was finally changed to trapeze.

Flames (Baku, Azerbaijan)

A group of skyscrapers in Baku in a form of giant torches. This could be a sail or a fin, but the towers are fully covered with LED-screens which claim that the buildings symbolize fire. The complex consists of three towers of various height and destinations: they house a hotel, apartments and offices. The project obviously refers to the emblem of Baku featuring flame shapes.

Deformed ring (Beijing, China)

It is not that easy to describe the shape of this high-rise building. It is a deformed ring of five horizontal and vertical sections. A bigger part of the ring is hanging over the ground. Certainly, there is little of a round in such a ring and it has got a name 'boxers' among public. The skyscraper is intended for the head office of China's Central Television (CCTV), but it also houses a hotel, a theater and exhibition areas.

Hashtag (Seoul, Korea)

In a strife to keep up with the times, a group of Dutch architects projected a complex of towers which resemble the symbol #, also called hashtag. The building houses apartments, though the tower was to become a gate to the business district Jonsung, thus turning into its symbol.

Hieroglyph (Shanghai, China)

Symbols were used in China too: a hieroglyph, chosen for this skyscraper, means 'people'. The building was constructed specially for the World Fair in China held in 2010. It houses conference halls, sport, aqua and cultural centers. The hotel begins where the two parts of the building come together.

Rotating tower (Dubai, UAE)

A tower resembling a DNA-spiral is not an uncommon thing nowadays. There are numerous projects of the kind - the Evolution tower in Moscow-City, Turning Torso in Swedish Malma and Cayan Tower in Dubai. But Arabs did an extraordinary thing again: they found that a static tower would be not enough and decided to build a rotating skyscraper. This is just a project but this project has potential investors. The project is ecologically safe and this is what makes it different. It is suggested to be a power plant with wind turbines. It will ensure power to itself and buildings in neighborhood.
