"Prices on medicines are regulated by the state."
Talks to create enterprises manufacturing medicines are to start soon.
The due statement was made by Deputy Prime Minister, Deputy Chairman of the ruling party Yeni Azerbaijan, executive secretary Ali Ahmadov.
He said Azerbaijan had long had no practice of medicine production and specialists in this sphere.
Therefore, the only way out will be the creation of a joint venture with big foreign companies for production of medicines.
Noting the works done in this direction, he said that medicines-producing enterprises will be created on a corporate basis in Azerbaijan jointly with the companies which producing high-quality medicines and have a good image. The deputy prime minister believes that the practice of medicine production will gradually form in Azerbaijan in the future.
He said there is factually no medicine production in Azerbaijan. The country imports a bigger part of medicines.
The deputy prime minister added that import of medicines has a negative impact on the normal functioning of domestic market and also means an outflow of currency from Azerbaijan.
"In line with the direct instruction and under the control of the head of state, Azerbaijan applied the practice of state regulation of prices on medicines, existing in this or that form in most countries, including in most European states."
He added that the state must strictly control the quality of drugs.
