Institute of Manuscripts of Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences has found the manuscript proving that Turkic-speaking population were living at both the south and the north of Azerbaijan, Director of the Institute Pasha Karimov told.

He noted that discovered manuscripts are the scientific and historical and geographical works relating to the Middle Age. The unification of north and south of Azerbaijan under the same name is also noted in them.

"It was so even before Islam, and during the first period of its existence. Sometimes chauvinists say that the north is Aran, and the south is Azerbaijan. It is misconception. It is noted in the scientific, historical, geographical writings of the Middle Age that north and south is Azerbaijan. We have found manuscripts that prove it, and we will issue them soon," Karimov said.

He noted that there are about 12 thousand manuscripts belonging to Azerbaijan in the catalogs of libraries in other countries. But there are much more in fact, since a catalog of manuscripts is not compiled in the libraries of many countries. Thus, it is impossible to determine the exact number of manuscripts belonging to Azerbaijan.

"For example, in the libraries of major cities in Turkey a catalog of manuscripts is compiled. But such catalogs don't exist in some cities of Turkey, in many cities of Iran, 90 percent of cities in India and Afghanistan," Karimov said.
