The inauguration of the monument to Muslim Magomayev, an iconic Soviet
and Azerbaijani baritone operatic and pop singer of the 1960s and 1970s,
was held in Moscow, at the public garden located on the crossroads of
Voznesenski and Yeliseevski alleyways, not far from the late singer`s
home.
The monument was created by Aleksey Rukavishnikov, People`s Artist of
Russia. Hundreds of Magomayev`s fans took part in the inauguration. The
Azerbaijani delegation led by the minister of culture and tourism of
Azerbaijan Abulfas Garayev, was also present.
The construction of the monument was sponsored by the Muslim Magomayev`s
Cultural and Musical Heritage Foundation, founded by the President of
Crocus International CJSC Aras Agalarov.
Among the participants of the inauguration were prominent Russian celebrities and culture industry workers.
Muslim Magomayev died on October 25, 2008 in Moscow, in his flat, from a
heart attack. He was buried in the Alley of Honors in his native city
of Baku, next to his grandfather, on October 29.
