Construction project of toll bridge over the Caspian Sea is already ready. Department chief of Transport Ministry Sadraddin Mammadov told that the economic feasibility of the project has already been completed. The Transport Ministry has sent the project to the cabinet and the document is currently under consideration of appropriate state bodies.
According to calculations, the construction of the 17 km-bridge will cost $2 bn. ‘This will not be only a transport, but also a tourism project. Renovation elements of the city will be reflected in the document’, said Mammadov.
As per initial plan, if decision is made on realization of the project, an international consortium will be established in this regard. The consortium will prepare detailed project of the bridge and then after ratification, it will realize the construction. After completion of the construction, the consortium will be engaged in management of it: ‘After the company will take the funds, which invested in the project during management period, the management will be taken over by Azerbaijani side’.
Department chief noted that the use of bridge would be toll: ‘But for the time being, it is impossible to speak about the amount of the fee’.
To him, the construction of this bridge will simplify the movement of traffic more than once. It will positively impact on solution of jam problem and ecological situation in the city. Thus, after the construction, it will take 6 minutes to go from Zig to trade centers in Lokbatan.
Note that, there will not be any exits from the bridge along the route, instead, people will be able to step down to some islands in the Caspian sea by the special elevators, installed here, and sail by water taxis.
