The Azerbaijani State Academic Opera and Ballet Theater will stage “Aida” opera by Giuseppe Verdi, on May 7.
The opera will bring together the leading soloists of Azerbaijan, Belarus and Georgia. The performance will be conducted by well-known Belarusian conductor Vyacheslav Volich.
People's Artist of Georgia, State Prize winner, laureate of international contest of vocalists, Teimuraz Gugushvili will perform in the role of Radames. The part of Amneris will be sounded by talented young vocalist Nina Makarova.
The Honored Artist of Georgia, Sulkhan Gvelesiani is invited to perform Amonasro part.
One of the leading roles in opera, Aida, will be performed for the first time by Ilaha Efendieva Azerbaijan's Honored Artist.
The soloists also include Azerbaijani People's Artist Ali Asgarov (bass), Honored Artists Gulnaz Ismayilova, Akram Poladov and others.
Verdi wrote his Egyptian opera Aida in response to a commission from the Khedive of Egypt for the opening of the new Cairo Opera House, after rejecting requests for an anthem to celebrate the opening of the Suez Canal a year earlier. The first performance was conducted by the famous double-bass player Bottesini.
Synopsis. Aida, an Ethiopian princess, is captured and brought into slavery in Egypt. A military commander, Radames, struggles to choose between his love for her and his loyalty to the Pharaoh. To complicate the story further, Radames is loved by the Pharaoh’s daughter Amneris, although he does not return the feeling.
