Azerbaijani grandmaster Eltaj Safarli has won the Nakhchivan Open 2016 chess festival.
Safarli won the tournament “A” with 7 points, while another favorite of the tournament Azerbaijani GM Shahriyar Mammadyarov finished as a runner-up.
The tournament “A” brought together 48 chess players.
The total prize fund of the tournament amounted to $7500.
The 9-round chess festival brought together more than 300 players from Azerbaijan, Belgium, Georgia, Germany, Iran, Mongolia, Netherlands, Turkey, Ukraine, and Russia.
