Fans of Salvador Dalí can breathe easily: the renowned Spanish surrealist’s painting was reported stolen from a Manhattan gallery last week, but was returned yesterday in pristine condition.
According to the New York Post, the $150, 000, 11x14 inch, watercolor-and-ink piece was mailed to back New York from Europe. The painting arrived undamaged inside a box at JFK. It was addressed to the gallery and included what appears to be a bogus return address.
“The gallery believes it to be the original painting,” Lt. John Grimel told, adding that the piece was in remarkably good condition, though missing its frame.
The painting’s owner, Adam Lindenmann, confirmed that the painting had been received, but states that he has not yet had conservators examine it to verify its authenticity.
