Guba Genocide Memorial Complex on the initiative of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation will be opened in September-October this year, first deputy chief of the Guba Region Executive Power Yusif Abidov told.
The bones at the cemetery will be transferred or protected under the glass. It is planned to turn the cemetery into museum, after completion of the construction.”
Director General of Forensic-Medical Examination and Pathological Anatomy Union of the Health Ministry Shakir Musayev told that about 8000 bones were washed and treated with mordant: “The bones will be put back, after full completion of the construction.”
Guba genocide mass burial site was discovered on April 1, 2007. The employees of Archeology and Ethnography Institute of Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences found out the bones of more than 400 people. More than 50 of the remains belonged to children, 100 to women, the rest to the old men. Along with Azerbaijanis, Lezgins, Jews, Tats and representatives of other ethnic groups killed by Armenians were buried there.
In 2009, Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev allocated AZN 1 million for construction of “Genocide memorial complex” in Guba.
