Azerbaijan wins two Olympic awards in wrestling

The contests in wrestling has started in London Olympics yesterday.

The Greco-Roman wrestlers competed in the weight categories below 55 kg and 74 kg where Azerbaijan was represented by Rovshan Bayramov and Emin Ahmadov respectively competed first.

On the way to the final Rovshan Bayramov (55 kg) beat Russian Mangiyan Semenov, US Spenser Thomas Mango, China's Li Shunjin and Korean Guyjin Choya. However, in the final, Bayramov faced Iranian five-fold champion of the world Hamid Mohammad Soryan Reyhanpur whom he did not manage to beat.

Bayramov became the twofold silver winner in Olympic Games. He also reached the final where he lost to Russia's Nazir Mankiyev in 2008 Olympics.

Emin Ahmadov (74 kg) won bronze. He started the fight from the final of 16, where he beat Croatian Neven Zugay. In the quarterfinal Ahmadov beat Georgia's Zurabi Datunashvili, but in the semifinal he lost to Armenian Arsen Julfalakyan.

Emin had the chance to win bronze and he made use of it by beating Belarus Alexander Kikinev in the fight for the third place.

Thus, on the first day of the wrestling contests Azerbaijan gained two awards-silver and bronze.
