The opening ceremony of the school for girls was held in Muzaffarabad city of Pakistan. The school was constructed in 2007 and reconstructed in 2012 with initiative of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation.
The press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs told that the Educational Minister of Pakistan Sadig Dar, the Minister of Information and Broadcasting Bazil Nakvi, Emergency Situations Secretary Sardar Rahim Khan, MP Sadaf Sheykh and the ambassador of Azerbaijan to Pakistan Dashgin Shikarov, as well as media representatives attended the ceremony held on September 18.
Shikarov gave detailed information on the large-scale projects implemented in Azerbaijan and Pakistan, as well as in foreign countries on the initiative of Mehriban Aliyeva. He noted that the school has been fundamentally reconstructed.
The ambassador also mentioned that 5 students have been awarded with monthly scholarship by Heydar Aliyev Foundation.
The Pakistani Educational Minister Sadig Dar said that Azerbaijan was one of the first countries assisted Pakistan during 2005 quake. He stressed that a new school for 500 students has been constructed in the place of quake-affected school for 150 students. Sadig Dar expressed his gratitude to Mehriban Aliyeva for the support. The official state bodies highly appreciated the first lady’s support for Pakistani people, especially children and named the school after her.
At the end of the ceremony Heydar Aliyev Foundation presented each student with school supplies and books published by the Azerbaijani embassy in Islamabad, as well as 2 computers.
