The oldest working car in the world was issued in 1884. No, it’s not a Ford, Volkswagen or Toyota even though these may be the biggest selling vehicles of all time. It’s not the Chevrolet, BMW or Chrysler either. It’s quite a mouthful to pronounce or even to remember. Thank goodness it has an alternate name. It’s called De Dion Bouton Et Trepardoux Dos-A-Dos Steam Runabout, named after the Count of Dion, a French aristocrat. It’s also known by its much simpler name, La Marquise, named after the Count’s mother. It sold at an auction in the first week of October 2011 for a whopping 4 million 620 thousand dollars. This is a new record price for vintage vehicle sales.
