Currently, 10 foreign families have been registered at the State Committee for Family, Women and Children Affairs to adopt a child from Azerbaijan, chief of the department of the International Adoption of the Committee Vasila Movsumova told.
She said that the documents of many families had already been received, but they were still being studied. According to her, there are even such families waiting in this queue since 2008: “The families who want to adopt a child are from various countries. Azerbaijanis living in Russia dominate among the families adopting children. Besides it, the families from the US, France and UK can also adopt child.
Movsumova noted that Azerbaijani families generally preferred to adopt fully healthy infants without defects, but these were not important for foreign families: “For them, it is important that the child has a treatable disease. We never adopt a child, who has no arms, but foreigners believe that he can be treated by prosthetic appliance. Our main goal is that children are adopted by local families. Each child is offered to the Azerbaijani families. However, the children who are not adopted by local families, are offered to foreign families.”
