The average amount of social benefits and targeted social assistance (TSA) will increase in Azerbaijan in 2013, the Deputy Minister of Labour and Social Protection Ilgar Rahimov told journalists on Wednesday.

Since 2006, Azerbaijan has moved to a system of targeted social assistance. The amount is determined based on the difference between a 'need criteria' and the amount of income per family member which amounted to 84 manats in 2012, while standing at 75 manats in 2011.

"Given the increase of need criteria to 93 manat in 2013, the average size of TSA for a family will grow from the current 110 manats to 130 manats. The scope and coverage area of TSA will also be expanded. Today, the number of TSA recipients is 130.000," Rahimov said.

According to him, indexation of social benefits will also be held in 2013.
