Umayra Tagiyeva: “Unstable, cold and frosty weather will continue in Azerbaijan till December 18”

The Siberian High/Anticyclone moving from the east of Russia reached Azerbaijan in the evening on December 13 and caused severe cooling of weather. Director of the weather forecast bureau of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources Umayra Tagiyeva told intensive rains were recorded in many regions of the Republic at night and heavy rains in some places: “The amount of precipitation in Aghjabadi was higher 5 times than monthly amount. The amount of daily precipitation in Neftchala is equal to monthly normal. The intensive rains were also recorded in Salyan and Guba. Rain and sleet were observed in mountainous areas of Baku and Absheron peninsula between 08.00 and 10.00.”
Tagiyeva said that the height of snow cover reached 12 cm in Altiaghaj, 6 cm in Saribash and 1 cm in Kishchay: “Unstable, cold and frosty weather will continue in Azerbaijan till December 18. Our warnings are still in force. It will also sleet and snow in Baku and Absheron peninsula. On the night of December 16-17, the snow is expected.”

According to her, on the night of December 15-16 and 16-17 the temperature will fall above zero in the capital: “In these times, the temperature will be -2 C in the capital. The temperature will be 1…3 C in the daytime in the capital in Lowland regions 2… -3 C. The temperature will be -8… -13 C in mountainous region at night, in high mountainous areas of Greater, and the Lesser Caucasus Mountains -15…-20 C.”
