Traditional winter tournament dedicated to the memory of Azerbaijani footballer Arif Abbasov will be held in Tomsk, Russia.
The first games of competition will take place in the Motor stadium, December 9.
Tournament will consist of 7 leagues: province, mass, women, junior, schoolchildren, veterans and super league. Over 100 team have already applied to participate in the competition. The matches will be held in different stadiums of Tomsk by late March 2018.
Arif Mikayıl Abbasov was born in Baku on July 23, 1945. He played for several teams of Tomsk between 1964 and 1974. He graduated from Tomsk State Pedagogical Institute, department of Physical training. After ending his football career, he started to work as a referee. As referee inspector Abbasov received appointments to officiate the matches of Russian championship. Arif Abbasov has also headed the Football Federation in Tomsk. On June 14, 2009 he died from heart attack ahead of the match between Okean and Smena teams in the second division. He was one of the main organizers of the winter football tournament in Russia.
