The discussions of the bill “On family planning and reproductive health” has been suspended at the parliament, chairman of the parliament’s Social Policy Committee Hadi Rajabli told. He said that “surrogate mother” and “donor bank” were controversial issues from the very beginning. According to the MP, the discussion of the bill has been suspended as the Azerbaijani society is not ready for these issues”.

“Doctors, specialists in Azerbaijan have expressed their views on the donor bank. But since there is inconformity with the religion, it has been completely removed from the agenda. The society is not ready for these issues. Family planning and reproductive health are mostly-discussed issues all over the world. Having a child through these methods is preferred to adoption in the world. The world is discussing it, we have also discussed it. But due to some problems we did not submit it to the plenary meeting. It requires time in Azerbaijan. We have suspended the bill. The bill “On family planning and reproductive health” will not be discussed at the Azerbaijani parliament any more. Though it is discussed in public, we have suspended its discussion at the parliament. This issue may be discussed again in five years,” he said.
