Snow Village to the Russia’s book of records
20.12.2012

The attraction was included into the Russia’s lookalike of Guinness Book for being the largest man-built construction of snow.

The so-called Snow Village located at the foot of the Khibiny Mountains opens for tourists this Saturday.

The Snow Village was built for the first time 5 years ago and became a popular sight for tourists. However, it has not been that huge before.

The total area of the object this year is 2.014 square meters, which is a record for Russia. That was confirmed during the opening ceremony by Alexey Svistunov, the editor of the Russian Book of Records.

But the size is not the main attraction for tourists that come to Khibiny every year to see the Snow Village. This is also about creative works of 30 artists and architects. A new concept is developed every season: there have been fairytales, countries, and ice sculptures. This time Sochi Olympic Games 2014 became the source of inspiration for the artists who borrowed some Olympics-related themes to design the Village. In 2011, the rooms of the Village replicated images and well-known places from around the world.

Local climate conditions will keep the Snow Village operating till April.
