Immigrants proposed to take Azerbaijani language test
17.1.2013

Immigrants living and working in Azerbaijan are proposed to take an Azerbaijani language test. Azerbaijani Parliament told that this issue may be put up for discussion on the initiative of a group of MPs this year.

The amendment to the “Labor Migration” law is also planned in this regard. According to the proposal, foreign nationals who want to work in the field of housing and communal services, retail trade and catering services should take an Azerbaijani language test. Those passed the exam would be granted with State- approved certificates. Note that, Russia has already approved such a law.

Commenting on the issue Head of Legal Policy and State Building Committee of Azerbaijani Parliament Ali Huseynli told that up to now the number of those leaving Azerbaijan was high, but now the number of those coming to Azerbaijan is higher: “I consider that there is no need to force immigrants to pass the language test so soon. As we have not reached that stage on this issue yet. We are interested in labor migration for the economic growth. We need to take extra time to consider this issue.”
