28.2.2013

Georgian first lady Sandra Elisabeth Roelofs has today visited Icharisheher, one of the world`s cultural heritage sites, in Baku.

She viewed the Maiden Tower, which was built in the 7th-6th centuries BC, and restored in the 12th century. The Tower, 28m in height and 16-16.5m in diameter, comprises a cylinder-like real tower and a huge supporting construction.

The Georgian first lady was informed of the very ancient history of Icharisheher, the valuable cultural heritage of the Azerbaijani nation. This residential and historical and architectural complex is surrounded by the wall 8-10m in height and 3.5m in width.

She viewed stone exhibits at Syrataghly Religious and Architectural Complex discovered in 1964 during archaeological excavations to the north of Maiden Tower.

She was informed on the Icharisheher State Historical and Architectural Reserve, which is classified as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.

The first lady also walked through “Kichik Gala” street in the Inner City. The first lady tasted national Azerbaijan bread here.

Sandra Elisabeth Roelofs signed the Icherisheher`s guest book, and she was presented with a keepsake.
