Former prime minister of Great Britain Margaret Thatcher has been honored with the Nizami award.
The statement is contained on the official website for the Baku Department of culture and tourism citing the news service for the International Center of Nizami Ganjavi.
Thatcher's secretariat responded positively to the appeal about awarding her.
"Addressing you on behalf of Mrs.Margaret Thatcher, we convey you her pride and deep gratitude for the decision to nominate Thatcher for Nizami Ganjavi's award", the letter says.
The award which is honored for the exceptional merits before the world community was conferred on Bill Clinton, Suleyman Demirel, Birman political figure Aung Sang Su Czhi, Latvian former president Vaira Wike-Vraiberg.
