Metro is planned to be built in Sumgait, Nakhchivan and Ganja cities of Azerbaijan.
Relevant information has been given in a statement by the head of Baku Metro Tagi Ahmedov that posted on official web-site of Baku Metro.
"Metro construction holds perspective future in Azerbaijan. We plan to take the necessary measure for the use of metro by the citizens of suburban settlements in Baku, Sumgait, as well as in Nakhchivan and Ganja” Ahmadov noted.
At the moment, Baku Metro realizes 20-year development plan. According to Ahmedov, it is planned to commission 2 stations in 2014 and more 6 in 2016 within the program.
The total length of the lines of Baku Metro is 34.6 km, currently. There are two main lines in metro. Lines are envisaged to be increased up to 5, while the length to 119 km and number of stations to 79.
Baku Metro has been functioning since 1967 and has 23 stations.
