Zones, where earthquakes will occur in the next 50 years, have been made public in Azerbaijan.
Director of Geodynamics and Seismology department of the Institute of Geology Fakhraddin Gadirov said at today’s meeting of Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences Presidium that as a result of the earthquakes in the territory of Azerbaijan between 427 and 2012, the dangerous zones of the 1st, 2nd and 3rd grade were determined.
Gadirov said that 8-9 magnitude quakes in Azerbaijan may occur in Ganja, Shamakhi, Shaki and the north part of Absheron peninsula. Historically, these areas have been seismic zones.
Gadirov said that the researches also revealed dangerous areas in the next 50 years: “This list includes Shamakhi, Ismayilli, Zagatala, Shaki and the northern and southern parts of Absheron peninsula, Bilasuvar and Jalilabad.”
