A bas-relief has been unveiled on a building in Baku where the late singer Muslim Magomayev once lived.
The
ceremony was attended by Muslim Magomayev`s widow, Tamara Sinyavskaya,
Azerbaijani Culture and Tourism Minister Abulfas Garayev and singer Emin
Agalarov amongst others.
The bas-relief was unveiled to a recording of Magomayev famous song, Azerbaijan.
"When
we talk about the independence of Azerbaijan, we can hear in our hearts
the song Azerbaijan as performed by Muslim Magomayev," Abulfas Garayev
said.
The chairwoman of Azerbaijan`s Composers Union, Firangiz
Alizade, echoed Garayev`s words: "Muslim Magomayev is the visiting card
of Azerbaijan. We are proud of our country when we hear his brilliant
rendition of the song Azerbaijan."
The Russian ambassador to
Azerbaijan, Vladimir Dorokhin, told the ceremony that even after his
death Muslim Magomayev helped to strengthen links between the two
countries.
Muslim Magomayev died in Moscow on 25 October 2008 and is buried in the Avenue of Honour in Baku.
The bas-relief is the work of Azerbaijan sculptor Omar Eldarov.
