On Tuesday evening, actor Shah Rukh Khan issued a press statement to formally announce the birth of his son. The couple has named the baby, born through surrogacy, AbRam.
According to the statement, the child was born prematurely by several months. This led to several health issues but the baby is finally home. "Gauri and our whole family have been dealing with his health issues for a long time now," Khan said the statement, adding that it was also the reason for the family's silence on the subject.
He also specially thanked Dr Jatin Shah of Bombay Fertility Clinic & IVF Center, Grant Road, and the staff, for their expertise and contribution.
On the controversy regarding sex determination allegations against him, Khan said, "The baby was born much before the speculations of sex determination and other issues pertaining to the same were being raised in the media by some organisations." He also clarified that since the baby was born through surrogacy, the process was confidential.
Apologising to the medical personnel and hospitals who had to face unwanted scrutiny, Khan appealed for privacy "to cherish the private moment" and hoped that the controversies will be put to rest.
The baby was born in the 34th week of pregnancy on May 27 this year. He is Khan's third child with Gauri, after son Aryan (15) and daughter Suhana (13).
